Puxi Primary Section: Chinese Textbook Drama

A ‘Textbook Drama’ is a story from a school textbook, arranged for the stage. SHSID’s Puxi Campus First Grade Native Level Chinese group performed their first textbook drama on April 11th.

Two weeks earlier, the Chinese teachers had picked five textbook stories and written scripts for them. The students then spent two weeks preparing the costumes and props, and rehearsing.

During the April 11thChinese Show and Tell class, the first graders performed their great dramas in front of the class.

The students’ performances were great and surprised all the teachers. They dressed up to be the real characters from the dramas and talked as the characters when they were performing. All the students received enthusiastic applause from their classmates and teachers.

This Chinese textbook drama activity was aimed at improving the students’ oral presentation skills and improving their understanding of the texts they studied in class. All the students loved this activity, and are waiting for their next chance to perform.
